grats dan.
i 4-0'd last night, too. played against 3 super good decks, gave 3 people their only loss. had to beat a deck that had 2 magebane armor, platinum angel, whispersilk cloak, 2 fabricate, kalonian behemoth...a deck that had 3 blinding mage, 2 pacifism, mind control, serra angel, sleep...and a deck that had overrun, cudgel troll, ant queen, jace beleren, air elemental, mind control, fireball. got lucky, i suppose.
for reference, my deck was:
llanowar elves
elvish visionary
deadly recluse
3 runeclaw bear
borderland ranger
centaur courser
2 kelinore bat
warpath ghoul
giant spider
cudgel troll
stampeding rhino
2 giant growth
doom blade
assassinate
whispersilk cloak
might of oaks
2 overrun
howl of the night pack
terramorphic expanse
12 forest
4 swamp

props:
James for mind controlling someone's baneslayer angel then strapping whispersilk cloak on it
James for not blocking my 4/4 when he was at 14 and getting might of oaked + giant growthed
James for having 3 forests in play and somehow letting me assassinate his cudgel troll
James for mind controlling my tapped runeclaw bear
slops:
the two people directly on my right that were both in green and still shipped me this deck
silly freshman for having jace + chandra + 2 fireballs and not winning

magebane armor is arguably the best rare in the set for limited

It's big, it walks, it can get 187'd, it absorbs a chump.
Eh.

Stark: No. Every season players seem to complain the Sealed formats are too "bomb-laden," but if you read the coverage from Niigata, you'll notice some clever in-depth analysis of the format from the Japanese. When I asked Watanabe what card he most wanted to open in his Sealed pool, he answered, "Magebane Armor." To that point, and since, I have not heard someone echo that sentiment and, judging by his Top 8s, he's right on. There weren't any complaints from the people I interviewed at the event that the Sealed format was any worse than in years previous.

Yes Jeff, I read that article too...

i liked magebane armor since the set released, had nothing to do with that article

there's only 2 non-mythic rares i would take over it first pick, first pack if i was playing to win (assuming one was foil so they came in the same pack): earthquake and djinn of wishes. nothing against planar cleansing, ant queen, etc., just personal preference.
would just rather have a card that guarantee makes the final deck, doesn't have any color commitments, and turns every creature into a threat. i only say djinn of wishes because i like blue in this format, it's underdrafted.

Brian Hacker is turning in his Magic grave.

Additionally, Keoni had this discussion with Matt. I forgot if it was pre-release or release.

I must be seeing things. Danny-boy is winning FNM's? Danny-boy is playing Magic again? You leave for a few months and the world goes crazy.

Keoni and I did have the Magebane discussion at the pre-release I think. I still don't believe it's the most powerful rare pound for pound, but I do have to admit that it has the nice advantage of being an auto-in no matter what the rest of your sealed/draft looks like, and that versatility does push it up a few notches. On the other hand, Earthquake is only slightly harder to splash, and I still believe it has a bigger impact on a game.

However, I haven't exactly had a ton of free time to draft since coming up here, so this is mostly still based in theory. Take it with a grain of salt.

Hope you find your deck, Travis.
