Da-Planet

Da-Planet, the place for Trading Card Games

How can we get back player attendance? At Paula's there was 19 players (myself included). From what I see, da-planet only had 8. She also ran draft which is why I defected over there (I will play ANYTHING over sealed if given the choice.) Planet's tournies seem to average $2 less, start half an hour later (great for working peeps), have more bathroom keys (w/SOAP tech in the bathroom), cheaper refreshments, and have a knowledgable judging staff. What's the excuse for this? There isn't one.

What I did notice was that Planet stopped their old calendar layout (where you see all 30-31 days) whereas Paula's Magic calendar is very simple and straight to the point. She even maps out 2 months in advance! All I can suggest is to sort calendar events by the game i.e. click on "Magic", see all FNM's for the next 2 months. There is also a growing stigma that all the better players are at Paula's. While you can't deny that Jeff Lee and Micheal Ching are good, Keoni Davey could play more often, Kris didn't show to practice for Kyoto, Dru made back to back top 8's and Mike Wun could rare draft :]

All i'm saying is that you guys need to change something. And fast. I figured since Motsuji became a TO, that everyone would flock to the qualifier mecca, Planet. But the opposite has happened. Paula's popularity has boomed. Did I mention she ran 2 Magic tournies on 2 consecutive Saturdays, featuring 2 tournies each event?

I like the planet. I have more friends at the planet. If my friends don't show, I can catch the bus directly home w/out transfer from the planet. It's a shame to see this establishment rotting away when it has so many advantages going for it.

I'd like to add that I value constructed (meaning standard but i'd like to see extended) above all other events atm b/c I can practice draft all I want online. Draft is second b/c it's cheaper than sealed, there's less luck involved, and you can even rare draft!

Also, it's a shame that Rob Silva left. He seemed to care very for much for the state of Magic while he was here. Is there anyone else as enthusiastic about judging the game around these days?

It was a small miracle I went 2-0 tonight, it was quite possibly the worst deck I've ever drafted. I should patent the 2-0 drop, I do it so often.

Anyways, I have no problem playing at either venue, my excuse is that I live 20 seconds away from Paula's. Both places have their advantages and disadvantages obviously, but imho I think they are both fine places to play mtg. I agree that we need to get better turnouts overall, it's better for the game. Maybe the next set will help with that. I've heard a couple of people say that they're waiting for Conflux because they don't like Shards.

I wonder, who was at Paula's at that game? I ask because the list of players at planet seems to be missing a few regulars.
Sealed was overblown. I could see it running up to PTQ, as I seem to remember suggesting it to Mike, but not getting a free pass to anything like some Corporate Champion. As it was, running one now was a little odd. Considering that the other store had 19, or could have ran 5 if they would run 5 rounds, as opposed to being barely sanctioned. I agree with Planet's strengths.

The calendar should come back. The 2 month thing is nice, as Planet could run alternate events so there isn't "double- sided" FNM. That does lead to one thing, though. Planet sometimes forgets to register for FNM.
What stigma is this? Who's seeing this stigma? Interesting, wrestling stable man. Mike Ching is...alright. Actually, Shawn Kimura is better, and slightly more dangerous. Jason Galut is dangerous, if he can borrow weapons.

I agree. Now, it may not even be about the pay table. It's almost to the level of care/neglect.
I thought that with Planet being the new Major home, that there would be more care. Instead, they missed December FNM. I know I had to go to Paula's to play to get that promo promotion. I know the Andrews's went there in protest. This is your opposite happening. Now planet regulars may not call planet home park, and now will go where they want, above the normal "park burnout" levels. I don't know if planet can or will compete on Saturdays, as they have some kind of other game then (WOW, Yu Gi Oh). Nice of you to shill for Paula, though.

I did like planet. Now, well, I can't say, as I haven't been there for a while. It seems like more of my friends are there. They start later. The parking seems easier. It's cheaper. The players there... well, you know about the players there. My opinion is kind of known about that too.

I think the shame is more for the fact that they are the home of the Majors. How can the place that had Berlin, (hosted) States, and Kyoto fail to register for December's FNM?

It seems backwards in thinking.

Other things:
FNM can't be extended, although we all know we would want it to be able to.

What happened to Rob?

Who the hell is Jeff Lee? :)

Nice politically correct statement, Jeff. You should run for office.

People were on Shards Sealed/Draft overdose. No bash on Jeff, but It was said at the PTQ.
