Da-Planet, the place for Trading Card Games

Hey, my name is Eric Sorensen and I work with Wizards of the Coast. We’re sorry to hear that your National Championship got canceled, so I wanted to pop in and make sure that you heard what Wizards of the Coast announced today:

Wizards of the Coast today announced that invitations to the Magic: The Gathering® National Championships will be extended to qualified Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game players in response to the recent announcement that their National Championships are canceled.

“We respect the accomplishments of all high-level tournament players,” said Chris Galvin, VP of Organized Play for Wizards of the Coast. “We’d like to do what we can to honor their achievements and keep them gaming.”

Yu-Gi-Oh! trading card game players who hold an invitation to the Yu-Gi-Oh! US or Canadian Nationals that were scheduled to take place this year will be welcomed to come play Magic at the equivalent Magic: The Gathering Nationals in summer 2009. Interested players can simply contact the Wizards Game Support team by visiting http://wizards.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wizards.cfg/php/enduser/doc_ser... or by calling 1-800-324-6496.

The trademark Yu-Gi-Oh! is owned by Shueisha, Inc. in the United States and may be pending or registered in other countries. Wizards of the Coast is not endorsed or sponsored by, or affiliated with, Shueisha or Konami.

I wasn't talking to Albert at all, as I know he loves to compete just like I do. I was replying only to BadKyat. What I meant was that he was being biased and the thing about my point being proven was meant to express that he is biased because of his statement, "in my personal opinion yugioh is the better game." Clearly my message was that people shouldn't write off the opportunity Magic is giving just because they like YGO better. "I'd rather quit playing than attend..." is a pretty silly statement if you care about competition at all. Like I said, if someone doesn't care about high level gaming then the kitchen table is as fine a place as any to get their game on.

I don't care what you or others may think I sound like. I know for a fact you aren't the only one who thinks that, but there are just as many people who still listen to what I have to say because I know what I'm talking about. I've played both games -- I'll concede that I'm not a great YGO player, but it is fun as a change of pace from Vs. or Magic -- at every level of competition and it's simply uneducated to say that YGO is a "better game" than Magic. I'm sure this is going to start an entertaining discussion/flame war, but I don't mean to say that YGO is bad. Just because person A has invested time and money into YGO -- regardless of skill level -- and has not done the same with another game does not inherently make YGO the better game.

Magic just is, mechanically (and OP-wise, even before the recent fallout), a more complete game.

Flame on.

easy fellas, no need to dog at each other at about what game is better. both games create an equal opportunity to demonstrate one's skills and knowledge of the formats and actual gameplay. i personally do think the gameplay of mtg is a lot better, but i like the ygo world (it's players, the environment, etc) a lot better.

having a busy heart-full business life i hardly have time for some card time, so whenever i get the chance i like to just have fun with the card games that i enjoy. i still would like to think competitivly though of course cause it's fun to solve how to consistantly beat other decks in the meta (even though for others it's just cake walk to solve).

so wtf does that mean "if u consider ygo the better game, my point is proven" dane, cause to me ur kinda just sounding like a dick head (hence y i think ygo player base is better), u don't know albert too well to assume things, so don't make accusations and neil don't worry too much about comparisons between ygo and mtg and of course don't dog about another game unless both parties agree, both are great games (hence y they're the top 3).

i myself am currently former mtg and wit this news i'll consider going (made my ygo top 4 January) if i got the time.

peace y'all.

Wow, first off thank you very much Eric for posting this here.

I don't care which is a better game, but I have to agree that passing up on this opportunity is .....well.... I mean, I wish I had this oppurtunity, seriously.

I'd say you should go and experience it. I mean...you guys earned it. Seriously, travelling around the world thanks to this game is an amazing experience. It gets even more interesting when you go to one multiple times and start seeing the same people no matter where you go, which I have to admit, is a neat thing.

I know I heard from YGO players that they think this, that and others...but think about how you're reflecting yourself as a YGO player please and show some respect to the OP please.

lol. I guesssssss....you can message me if you need help...I'm kinda excited for all the YGO players that are invited now and would be willing to help build decks. If you can describe me how teledad deck works, I can refer you to a deck that plays similarly.

So wait... If I qualified for YGO nationals, I qualify for MTG nationals!? If that's the case then that's really cool of WoTC!... Hopefully my teledad deck is legal =)

did you win an invite from Yu-Gi-Oh! Regionals? If you did then you earned it. If not, you can enter in the Magic Regionals tournaments.
