'A question is why can’t Brad Nelson, the alternate, participate in Gindy’s place and allow the United States team to continue? I don’t know the exact reasons for the policy, but I think it’s better that way. If three people on a team wanted to ch...

Gindy's round six opponent was Antoine Menard, a French player. DCI policy (which wasn't changed at all for this incident and has been published for a long time) is that if a player on a team is unable to compete due to a DQ, an alternate is not ...

btw, let me elaborate of the 'new player' thing. I know this is Worlds, the hardest tournament to qualify for, but Gindy's opponent wasn't even named, making it seem he isn't well known by comparison. This makes him the new player. Of course, if y...

I also think it's very unfortunate that the alternate can't take Gindy's place. Perhaps it's to punish everyone for one person cheating? Military-esque but it works.

I admit to doing this in the past. Allowing opponents to make illegal play mistakes in my favor. Thanks for letting us know this tactic is illegal. I'm actually glad this won't fly anymore. I believe in wizards doing anything to encourage new play...

Hrm, are judges cracking down now after the Brian Kibler incident? I'm glad to see that sort of thing isn't going to fly anymore. Embarrassing for this to be happening on the world stage, though.

Magic US National Champion Charles Gindy DQ'ed at Worlds

Original Post at:
http://wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/eventcoverage/worlds09/disqualifications

Post by Tim Willoughby, Wednesday, November 18, 2009, on Wizards.com's main Magic page.

"Round 6 here at Worlds saw the disqualification of Charles Gindy. This disqualification highlights the DCI position on clear play, and has a direct impact on the… Continue

PTQ San Diego - Judges Notes

Since the last major Magic tournament, there have been quite a few changes. Not only have the rules of the game been adjusted a bit (no more damage-on-the-stack, etc.), but the way tournaments are run and card interactions are handled have been modified also.

If you are serious about doing well in this PTQ, I recommend you be familiar with the Magic: The Gathering Tournament Rules and the Magic: The Gathering Infraction Procedure Guide. You can find both here:… Continue

Jared Suekawa vs. Andrew Grahm - PTQ Honolulu (3/21/09) Finals

The two players sat across from each other, talking mostly light-heartedly. Both had come a long way through to reach the final table, wielding well-selected weapons, and both seemed ready to take on the last challenge of the day. I asked them if they were going to play out the match. Andrew, focused on the invitation, immediately offered a prize-split. All the pack prizes in exchange for the invitation. After a brief review of the prize payout sheet, Jared declined the offer, electing to play i… Continue

MTG States - November 2008 - Top 8 Decklists

One of the Top 8, Trevor Johnson, is playing a seemingly innocuous collection of good Green & White Guys (he named the deck "The Short Bus"). It's concieveable that his main-deck Wilt-Leaf Lieges are pretty good against opposing Cruel Ultimatums.

MTG States NOV 2008

Posting a bit late as it's busier than expected here. There are 31 players in today's event. The players are pretty excited about the event, especially the prize plaque. I won't be able to do a metagame breakdown until later, but I've seen tried-and-true as well as totally rogue decks so far, so there will something interesting for everyone to check out. Photos coming soon.

I haven't been replying to these comments; I guess I'll catch up now?

Kristi needs a picture, too, looks like. I don't think Heidi is active on this site, no.

Yes, I am coming to the PTQ... wait, which PTQ?

Regarding the UH group, those were fun gatherings, to be sure. I think I remember the board games and Magi-Nation more than the Magic, really. Of course, I have no idea who you are, but at least you remember! Da Planet is pretty much what UH was, and easily replaced it. A place to play and hang out with friends is what it really was. Da Planet has some things we'd have loved at UH, though, like snacks and drinks, more people to play with, doors that open normally, and... well, I was going to say fewer crazy people, but I guess that's uncertain. I would still enjoy going to Da Planet and playing a few games on the weekends, if I could.

Whatever happened to those Magic gatherings on Sundays at UH? I remember going there like 5 years ago. Those were the fun days.
