The number of players participating in pre-release and release events for Magic: The Gathering was over 113,000 for the recent Zendikar release, 25% more than for Shards of Alara, the fall 2008 release. Zendikar also topped Lorwyn, the fall 2007 release, by 18%.
Magic: The Gathering, Zendikar was an exceptionally strong release, with vintage chase cards (see “M: TG: Zendikar has Vintage cards”) and riding momentum from the 2010 core set release (the first core set to include new cards).

Rulings Round-Up
October 17th, 2009
Coming out of SHONEN JUMP Championship Orlando, there were a few rulings and card interactions that came up repeatedly. A lot of Duelists weren’t familiar with how certain cards worked together (or didn’t work in some cases), so let’s take a quick look at some of the most common cases.
“Blackwing – Vayu the Emblem of Honor” and “Royal Oppression”
A lot of Duelists are familiar with “Necro Gardna,” a card that is removed from the Graveyard as a cost in order…

Changes/Clarifications:
If a TO/judge plays in an event he/she is an official for (and allowed to play in under the Oct. 1 change), then...
Section 1.4, on who can play; the line about "will have its K value set to 8" has been removed. It still states "If tournament officials and other staff play in the event, it must be run at Regular REL" - that much still applies. If your event is a 16K event and one of those you are allowed to play in and you do so, it will not be reduced to 8K.
When regis…

I got a call this morning from the Mainland and it started as "did you hear what Wizards inserted into Zendikar?" "Reports are coming in from all over," the person retorted.
Zendikar is going to be crazy. Here are some of the cards that have been pulled across the world (from those guys that busted the pre-release product which they weren't supposed t…

A number of you have asked me what I think about the entry of Ideal into the tournament scene in Hawaii. The answer is simply great. Ideal had a huge turn out this past Saturday of over 100 entrants. The reason why this is a good thing is that stated simply by "a rising tide floats all boats."
Competition is the basis of the free market economy. Competition forces the competitors for up their game to either provide better prices or better services.
The players that go to all the various tourna…
