crushing cube

Last week's cube draft was awesome for one reason: I dominated!

Our first draft was a 4-man and I found Black Lotus waiting for me in the back of the pack. Obviously I smile-slammed it. Next pack was a little scary, as there were some solid cards in each color but I decided that I couldn't risk Yawgmoth's Will getting snatched up by someone else, so I put that on the pile and looked for opportunities to abuse it (besides with my lotus, duh!).

Pick three was a fun one as I n… Continue

more draftsicles

We drafted SSE tonight. First time looking at the new cards, combined with my lack of success in the SSS format made for a rough first pack. I took Kulrath Knight first, followed by double Runes of the Deus and Traitor's Roar. 5th pick Illuminating Folio made for 25 converted mana cost in 5 picks. Nice. Long story short, I managed to wiggle my way into a nice little WR deck with 5 2 drops, 4 3 drops 4 4s and a few 5s. I ended up running out a 3-0 with it, so that was a nice little surprise. Cubing

So my friends and I have a weekly thing. We cube draft (it actually has a nickname that I cannot state here). If you don't know what that means, here it is: A box of your favorite cards, one copy each (our cube has over 1000 cards, while others are a tight number such as 360 or 720 so that they can support perfect numbers of 8 person drafts with 3 packs of 15 cards each). Everyone shuffles them up into hopefully random piles, then makes packs of however many cards it takes for your game to be dr… Continue

Singletons/"Tech Copies"

After a long conversation with Matt "y the Squid" Dunn during which I asked him what I should blog about for this new site here, we had a long discussion (one could say "argument") about the value or lack thereof of "tech copies" of cards -- 1 ofs in a normal constructed deck with no tutors to fetch them -- I've decided to write a little something about the phenomenon.

Matt and I grew up together in our collectible card game careers, and I'd have to say we've been at least a little… Continue

SJC Honolulu

Hey everyone, Just wanted to say good job at the Shonen Jump. I was proud to see so many familiar faces do well, and even if some of you didn't day two or what have you, don't get down on yourself. Everyone should be hungrier after that taste of competition and I expect to see some full blown technology in the coming weekly YGO events. Again, congratulations to everyone who participated (and organized). Good luck! Dane Continue
