The number of players participating in pre-release and release events for Magic: The Gathering was over 113,000 for the recent Zendikar release, 25% more than for Shards of Alara, the fall 2008 release. Zendikar also topped Lorwyn, the fall 2007 release, by 18%. Magic: The Gathering, Zendikar was an exceptionally strong release, with vintage chase cards (see “M: TG: Zendikar has Vintage cards”) and riding momentum from the 2010 core set release (the first core set to include new cards). The pr… Continue

So You Never Win Anything at a Tournament Saturdays at Da-Planet

We have heard the concerns from our player base that they don't have a chance to win stuff at the tournaments. So our Saturday Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments will NOT ONLY give a free Turbo Pack to the entrants BUT ALSO give away the prizes RANDOMLY during and at the end of the tournament. Thus, Saturdays is going to be our Just for Fun day for those of you that don't want to fight for the Top 16 spot at Toylynx, and just want to hang out with friends and have a good time. We will announce further detai… Continue

Netrep closing up shop... AWWWWWWWWWWWW

THE FOLLOWING IS A POST FROM THE NETREP WEB SITE Greetings my friends, Sadly the time has come. The last few months have been extremely busy for me, with both work and family life, and has brought the realization to me that I cannot support the CCG Toolkit in good faith anymore. I love the Toolkit. I still see great things for it, should somebody see fit to carry on the torch. But for me it is time to move on to the next chapter. I can't thank everybody enough for the support th… Continue

Halloween Pumpkin Decorating Contest Fundraiser

Da-Planet will have its first Pumpkin Decorating Contest. This is our first of many fundraisers. In these tough economic times our Public Schools are seeing more and more budget cuts. How it Works: You will decorate a mini pumpkin with anything you want as long as there is NO CARVING. ALL de… Continue

Consumers Buried Paul: Beatles Rock Band a Sales Dud

By: Chris Morris, Special to CNBC.com The 2009 version of Beatlemania appears to have nothing on the 60s. Despite an extensive marketing campaign, positive reviews and some of the most widespread media attention ever given to a video game, “The Beatles: Rock Band” had a relatively lackluster first month on store shelves. Source: Harmonix - The game did beat its chief competition —Activision’s [ATVI 12.46 -0.07 (-0.56%) ] “Guitar Hero 5” — by nearly a 2:1 margin in September. And, as developer… Continue

Shonen Jump Austin Top 16 Rulings

Rulings Round-Up October 17th, 2009 Coming out of SHONEN JUMP Championship Orlando, there were a few rulings and card interactions that came up repeatedly. A lot of Duelists weren’t familiar with how certain cards worked together (or didn’t work in some cases), so let’s take a quick look at some of the most common cases. “Blackwing – Vayu the Emblem of Honor” and “Royal Oppression” A lot of Duelists are familiar with “Necro Gardna,” a card that is removed from the Graveyard as a cost in order… Continue

Naga 2009 - My First Jiu-Jitsu Tournament

I entered my first tournament, the Naga Grappling Tournament. There were over 780 competitors packed into the Pearl City High School Gym. I was really hesistant about entering as I didn't train for a month due to the move of the store. I figured I would just go for it. I had to get down to 149 to make the Featherweight Division. A week before the event I did not like how I was doing in practice so I decided to just enter in my age division 40-49 (Directors). I got to the Gym early. I was worri… Continue

Bad News - No Yu-Gi-Oh Regionals for 2009 Winter Season for Hawaii

We just got news that our application to host a Yu-Gi-Oh Regionals for this 2009 season for Hawaii was denied. The reason for this was due to budget issues at Konami Organized Play. Evidently they have used up their allocation due to the boom of Yu-Gi-Oh in the United States and the bigger venues in the Mainland. We have a slot for the 2010 Spring Season so you will have to wait until then. This was unfortunate but unavoidable. Hopefully this is a wake-up call for all of us that we need to supp… Continue
