What are Pokémon TCG City Championship Tournaments?

The Pokémon TCG City Championships are title events where players in each of the three POP-recognized divisions can earn the title of City Champion! Results of the City Championships count toward your Premier Rating!

City Championship events are operated by independent Tournament Organizers across North America.

When is the Honolulu Pokémon TCG City Championship?

The Honolululu Pokémon TCG City Championship will be taking place on Saturday, December 5, 2009.

How much does the event cost?

All Pokémon Organized Play Premier events in North America are FREE! That's right—there is no admission fee for a City Championship! Get your decks tuned up, and get down to your local City Championship location for your first shot at this free event!

What is the tournament structure?

The tournament is run using the Modified Constructed Format and Age Modified Swiss pairings. See the Pokémon Tournament Rules for information about the Modified Format and Swiss. The number of Swiss rounds run will depend on total attendance at the event. After the Swiss rounds end, there will be a cut to Single Elimination Finals. A maximum of 8 players will advance to the Single Elimination Finals.

The City Championships series will have a K-Value of 16. For more information on how the K-Value affects your Premier Rating, please see the Ratings and Rankings FAQ.

What are the prizes?

Prizes are awarded to the top 4 players in each age group.

The age groups are:

• Junior Division: Born 1999 or later
• Senior Division: Born in 1995, 1996, 1997, or 1998
• Masters Division: Born in 1994 or earlier

Top 4 finishers in each of the three divisions receive the following prizes:

1 ^st Place

• 18 Pokémon TCG booster packs
• A City Champion medal

2 ^nd Place

• 10 Pokémon booster packs

3 ^rd & 4 ^th Place

• 4 Pokémon TCG booster packs

What do I need to know?

• Bring your POP ID card, if you have one. If you don’t have a POP ID, one will be given to you at the event.
• See the Pokémon Tournament Rules for more information about what to bring to an event.
• Make sure you arrive on time. If you arelate for registration, you may not be able to play in the event.
• To participate in the event, you must be a player in good standing and abide by the Tournament Rules.
• Local residency is not required to enter a Pokémon TCG City, State, or Regional Championship event.

What happens after the tournament?

After the tournament ends, the Tournament Organizer will submit the tournament results to Pokémon USA, Inc. Pokémon, which sanctions the tournaments, will determine player rankings. Pokémon Organized Play reserves the right to remove the Premier Event status of any event that is not run in accordance with Premier Event policies.

The above prizes will be awarded as follows:
1st Place - 18 packs, medal, choice of playmat, cap, or binder.
2nd Place - 10 packs, choice of 1 remaining prize
3rd Place - 4 packs, remaining prize
4th Place - 4 packs

There are a total of 4 playmats, 4 binders, and 4 caps. Any remaining prizes after the event will be raffled off. A player cannot win the same prize twice (2 playmats, 2 binders, or 2 caps) but may win more than 1 prize.
