Bad News - No Yu-Gi-Oh Regionals for 2009 Winter Season for Hawaii

We just got news that our application to host a Yu-Gi-Oh Regionals for this 2009 season for Hawaii was denied. The reason for this was due to budget issues at Konami Organized Play. Evidently they have used up their allocation due to the boom of Yu-Gi-Oh in the United States and the bigger venues in the Mainland. We have a slot for the 2010 Spring Season so you will have to wait until then.

This was unfortunate but unavoidable. Hopefully this is a wake-up call for all of us that we need to support Official Konami Organized Play and get out in force to show the rest of the US that we have the numbers.

dang thats sad to hear. well remember you all are always welcome to my place in seattle for sjc if ever interested. Also I think it's important to not ignore that Michael has a point, "Hopefully this is a wake-up call for all of us that we need to support Official Konami Organized Play and get out in force to show the rest of the US that we have the numbers." personally i know hawaii players are better if not as good as mainland players.

how else can we prove it to them if we have no regionals? how can we prove ourselves if we have no way to prove hawaii players deserve a shot? since the store has relocated I'd say that the OP has expanded as well. i dont see how else we can prove it to them, we're doing what we can...

I'm super sad to hear this news. It's unfortunate that Hawaii has to once again fight for a chance to be given the same opportunities as the rest of the nation. The local players have done it before, though, and there's no doubt in my mind that this news will rally the Hawaii players to action once again. I, for one, would never stand for being considered a second-class competitor.

As Mike pointed out, the best way to show that there's demand for the action is by playing in Official Konami Organized Play. Official. I can't stress that enough.

how much people need to enter an official tournament? and how frequently? which tournaments are we talking about? Turbo pack tournaments on fridays? since we have no regionals now we have no choice but to resort to weekday tournaments. but the older players have schedules as well, and cant always make these tournaments, which obviously affects performance. perhaps more chances to enter official tournaments can solve that problem. but hey. jus sayin. i'm unaware of the difficulties behind more frequent tournaments...
