OMG Zendikar Reserved List Inserts - Priceless Treasures - Biggest Magic News in a Decade

I got a call this morning from the Mainland and it started as "did you hear what Wizards inserted into Zendikar?" My answer was "No." Then the person said that "WotC has inserted ORIGINAL cards that are on the Reserved List". "OMG, are you sure?" I responded. "Reports are coming in from all over," the person retorted.

Zendikar is going to be crazy. Here are some of the cards that have been pulled across the world (from those guys that busted the pre-release product which they weren't supposed to).

If you don't play in the Pre-Release you are crazy.

Ancestral Recall (worth >$1,000), Bayou (worth $35), Lion's Eye Diamond (worth $25), Lich (worth $35), Taiga (worth $200), Mox Diamond (worth $40), and Underground Sea (worth $150).

Here is the text from John Carter's post on the Judge List

Events have begun in Japan, so Zendikar is [O]fficially upon us.

Rather than answer questions piecemeal, and to give you the tools you need in your role as the talkers in your communities, here is the complete rundown of what I can say in regards to Zendikar...

Q: I heard that there are vintage cards in Zendikar boosters - is it correct?
A: Yes, certain authentic vintage cards have been inserted in some booster packs for Zendikar.

Q: Are the vintage cards real? Or are they reprints?
A: These cards are actual original cards, not reprints.

Q: How many vintage cards are in the set?
As a general policy, we don't disclose collation for a given card set. There are over 90 different vintage cards.

Q: Why did Wizards insert vintage cards in Zendikar boosters?
A: The cards fit the game play and theme of the Zendikar set which is about 'deadly perils and priceless treasures'.

Q: Which vintage cards did you insert?
Consistent with the game play and theme of the set, we included some of the most powerful cards in Magic's history.

Q: Can I play these vintage cards in a tournament?
A: These vintage cards retain their current status in the tournament environment. They are allowed in certain organized play formats that can be found on www.magicthegathering.com.

Q: Are vintage cards inserted in all Zendikar boosters? Including reprints?
Vintage cards, like all cards in Magic, are not available in all packs. We do not disclose collation information.

Q: Are vintage cards inserted in Magic Online Zendikar boosters?
No. No vintage cards are inserted in Magic Online Zendikar boosters.

To recap:
Yes, vintage cards are in boosters. Yes, they're originals, not reprints.
No, you can't play in your limited Zendikar event with pre-Zendikar cards.
No, we can't talk about which cards, how many have been inserted, or where they came from.
Yes, the MTR already covers this somewhat new situation (foil Lightning Bolts in Nemesis, anyone?).
If someone opens a "priceless treasure," they should keep it and enjoy. The truck with the "deadly perils" boxes had a horrific accident, so the only deadly perils this weekend are the traps across the table from you. ;-)

i'm not saying cobra isn't good.... but just think about it as a worst case scenario. is a two-drop 2/1 in you're deck okay if it does nothing else? what about if it helps you drop a turn 3 baneslayer? 50-50? that's exactly where this card shoul be. lightning bolt, burst lightning, gatekeeper (on the draw), doom blade, etc. i hate the "but it dies to removla argument". but guess what? it dies to removal. if you can get there without it.... kudos, and gl with your turn 3 baneslayer. if you're relying on it... i'm sorry... but you need a better deck. anyone see Knght of the Reliquary getting more play? I do. =)

... is overrated.

is it good? sure. free mana. who doesn't love free mana? is it the second coming? nope. will it give you free mana sometimes? no doubt. will you be able to cast something relevant with that mana? maybe.... maybe not. CRUEL on turn three! dream on. BANESLAYER on turn three.. more realistic. but guess what? You're precious angel still dies to doomblade and now hideous end. is cobra good? yes. is cobra good on turn 4?.....5?.....6?..... hm.... lets' stop dreaming about the god hands with cobra and think about what happens when you topdeck him and you'd rather have ____________.

I'd say it's more like WoW than Yu-Gi-Oh. Now there's a chance to crack some triple-digit action in a Zendikar pack, but, like Todd said, since those cards aren't Standard legal, it won't turn Magic into a Mr. Moneybags game.

Now, Lotus Cobra, on the other hand. . .

aaaand if you didn't hear about it yet, there's already reports that someone opened a Black Lotus. It's a card that can go more than $3000. Even up to $6000 if it's in a really good condition.

Wow, the transition to YGO is complete.

The insert cards will only be legal in formats where they are already legal, so while being richer may make it wasier to get insert cards, getting insert cards won't help you in modern tournaments (unless you're playing vintage or legacy events - in which case you'd save money buying the singles, as always).

but then mtg is gonna be like ygo, the richer dudes are gonna run the decks that always top >_< haha.

1g card from mtg.. unheard of from a new set. haha.

"If you don't play in the Pre-Release you are crazy." [QFT]

If you like Magic, you should play in the pre-release, buy a box on release day (and get the free promo, while supplies last), and get a fat pack (because they run out very quickly) because in ANY of these packs you could get one of these HOT inserts; easily the biggest potential-payoff TCG pack busting opportunity in recent history (if not ever). If I weren't judging tomorrow, you can bet I'd enter any Zendikar event I could.

If you are not into Magic, you should do all of the above anyway; if you open one of the hot Vintage insert cards and sell it, you can pay for more than what you bought, but cards and tournaments for any game you like as well!

We are not sure if these inserts will be in any future printings, so this is your only definite chance to get these amazing cards!
