What's the pick?

So im still learning MTG, especially limited. I'm hoping to hear what people would first pick out of this pack and why. The draft format is Shards/Conflux/Reborn. So what's the pick?

I have had only one draft where I ended up esper (and lost finals to a better esper deck).

I would definitely rate a red removal spell higher than most esper cards (I do not count O Ring as an esper card, as I would first pick it over almost anything). The person that passed you that esper stuff probably had go reason to do so. Look at that pack: O Ring, Tower Gargoyle, Sanctum gargoyle. Pretty much the top 3 picks in an esper deck. Taking one would probably result in BOTH of you ending up into esper and fighting for cards all the way through the draft, screwing you both. I think your neighbor made the right call by most likely going for a red removal spell or the bomb in the pack. It is incredibly important to pick up good esper cards in pack 2 because that is where a lot of the good esper cards are, where jund and naya have their best cards in pack 3.

Comment by The Dane Train on June 29, 2009 at 8:19am: At the Pro Tour I opened O Ring, got passed O Ring, Tower Gargoyle, Sanctum Gargoyle, Resounding Silence. I somehow ended up Esper. There are some clear overstatements here regarding "everyone" and "forcing." Just be flexible and see what happens.

I would argue more people here go naya or bant. yes, capsule is definitely not as strong as spray, charm, or ultimatum in a vacuum. however, I would still take it, ship the red, and try to set myself up in some blue shard. just my personal opinion fwiw. =)

Comment by Derek on June 28, 2009 at 4:14pm: I agree with Keoni. I think a lot of people go into drafts trying to "force" Esper. If the esper cards arent there then my second pick is definitely going to be Grixis. I like the BR cards that the block has, but I prefer the blue for Grixis than the green for Jund. Thats just me though.
